The CWIC Service (Care When It Counts) is now operational for patients of Tranent Medical Practice .
The CWIC Services supports some of the requests for on-the-day care received by a number of GP practices in East Lothian. The service is provided by East Lothian Health & Social Care partnership, and is predominantly nurse practitioner lead.
Patients contacting us with a same day issue may have this forwarded to the CWIC Service to assess and manage. Where this happens patients will receive a phone call from a CWIC clinician, who will carry out an assessment of the patient’s issue. They will agree an appropriate action plan with the patient. If the CWIC clinician thinks it appropriate, they can arrange to see the patient by video link or in a face-to- face consultation. If required, CWIC clinicians can issue prescriptions (for collection at Tranent pharmacies), arrange for further tests such as blood tests, and if necessary can refer patients to secondary care.
The CWIC Service is based at the Musselburgh Primary Care Centre (MPCC), which is adjacent to Tesco’s in Musselburgh. It has been running successfully for a number of months, handling issues for patients in Musselburgh, Cockenzie and Port Seton. The service is now being extended to Tranent, and will help the practice build the capacity it needs to meet patient requirements going forward.
