A Person Centred & Efficient Approach to Delivering Health Care
Patients with longer-term conditions have told us that they would like to spend more time with their doctor, nurse or pharmacist, and to be linked up with people living with the same or similar health conditions as themselves. Group consultations (also known as shared medical appointments, group clinics and group appointments) are a way of delivering this.
A group consultation is a one to one medical appointment delivered by a clinician within a group setting. In this type of consultation patients receive the personal attention of the practice team in a calm, relaxed, well organised group setting. This gives patients the opportunity to learn about how best to manage their condition, how to stay well and how to prevent illness. Members of the group are given time to share their experience and everyone can gain support and learning from others who are dealing with similar issues.
The practice is introducing group consultations for patients with a range of long-term conditions, and will be inviting patients to take part in these over the coming months.
